Dream Team Autographs

Never believe all that you hear is a phrase that is associated to many things we have encountered in our daily lives and it was so evident in meeting the Oscar winning actress SISSY SPACEK. First of all she is truly one of my all time favorites from movies ranging from COAL MINERS DAUGHTER to the eerie CARRIE and always hope to meet her which in reality thought might not happen.She was in town for a film festival showing her role in BADLANDS and word around town was she was very difficult. First she was harassed at the airport and at the venue the promoters made it very difficult with a 150 dollar meet and greet as the main opportunity to meet this great star. With HotDog and Rocketman we used some smarts to figure where she may be staying and took a chance. With luck on our side, she arrived close to 11 PM. Many times when you plan to meet someone that meant something special to you as we grow up or who may be in town with the chance to see if the press written about them is truly on target. Today was one of those days when 2 people of different walks of fame were in town on the same day. The first was Hall of Fame Tennis great ROD LAVER was meeting the public in a charity event with a 150 dollar meet and greet that included a question and answer, his new book and some treats to satisfied ones pallet. With some luck, I was invited in to the meet and greet with my special items I was hoping to get signed. After his talk most everyone got on line to have their book autographed and I was preparing to meet the legend one on one. I placed the items down and though he did sign , You could feel the resentment that he had to go through all this activity. It was a bit disappointing and not what I excepted.. With the growing trend of shows where celebrities show up to sign and take photographs for a price many of us have realized that this practice will continue as long as the fan needs to be up and personal with many of their favorites that they have watched on TV or in the movies over the years.Now I have come to the realization that charging a REASONABLE price for an autograph may not disappear anytime soon , but I will never accept a fee to have a photograph with them done mostly with the buyers own camera or cell phone. So with a recurring show that brings in celebs this past weekend star such as Drea DeMatteo, Paul Sorvino and Alice Cooper , There also was a reunion of the stars from WEIRD SCIENCE movie with Kelly LeBrock, Ilan Mitchell Smith and ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL attending and signing pictures and posters. Just like all of us hopefully many times in ones life we will,have an anticipation of excitment when going somewhere or when meeting someone special that You have admired from a far. SOPHIA LOREN was doing a question and answer night at a venue that was 2 1/2 hours away and Rocket Man and Anxious John said it would be an opportunity that does not come every 20 years, So we took off in an adventure that had its near misses with dying in an auto and eating food that had people serving us that must have hated their job.We arrived a little early in hopes of catching Ms. Loren before her show and there already was 7 people waiting with the same idea we had. Now I have never been a big follower of Musicals but one will always stand out for me and it is BYE BYE BIRDIE. I was 10 years old when I watched ANN-MARGARET and BOBBY RYDELL with many other greats star in a one of the the fun and happy movies that originally was a broadway hit. Now I have met Ann Margaret and I truly never thought the opportunity would arise to meet any of the others. Now the only others still alive are Dick Van Dyke and Bobby Rydell.and when I heard that Bobby was performing in a venue not far from our location there was no question that I would hive it the college try.. So Anxious John and I camped out with hopes that the opportunity may come about. Now down deep I truly thought it I would never have the chance before today as he has been a survivor from a lung transplant to name one situation. RICKY SKAGGS has been performing for many of his 61 years and has won 14 GRAMMY AWARDS over the years and has gained legendary status with continued performing over the years. When HotDog and I heard he was playing in a venue in driving distance we could not resist to be entertained. After his show to a sold out crowd he took the time to meet and sign autographs to all those who wanted to meet and hear him tell everyone Thank You and Thanks for Coming. When I left my only thought that someone is overlooking him to be nominated and inducted in the Country Hall of Fame. I will be a leader of the band and push to have this credit to the music world to be inducted to this great institution and maybe wake up the voting assembly that he richly deserves this honor.

With the political races in high gear many of the candidates are stomping for votes and sending in others to help draw interest and get all to vote.On this special night Former PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON was drawing a nice crowd for his wife HILLARY CLINTONS bit for the White House. Speaking at a local college he kept everyone admiring that he used no cue cards and went on for about 40 minutes. Now No matter what political party or candidate You may be part of or want , You can not take away that only a few yards away is a Political Icon that lead the Most Powerful Country in the World for 8 years. Now Rocket Man and I positioned ourselves in hopes of getting a picture and our items signed .
