Like so many in life , there are those who feel they are a little better than the rest of everyone around them. EGO is a main factor and after observing what we saw a few nights ago, RICK SPRINGFIELD is a prime example. Springfield was a pretty face on an early soap and then went on to music in the early 80's using that fame as a catalyst. His big hit JESSES GIRL really was a catching tune and one I have always enjoyed even after 35 YEARS. As he no longer plays in front of big stadiums and was playing at EPCOT where people see the show with the Price of admission. RICK they do not pay the admission to see You only. Now this blog is my opinion and was also related by so many after we all left.
But I have to say he does put on an entertaining show though Disney People did not appreciate him making fun of a paying patron when he left during the show to go to the bathroom. But that was not the reason for my main disappointment though I did feel sorry for that guy . The show finished and the usual course for most if not all Musicians take a few moments to sign a few autographs and pictures with for no more than 15 fans at the most. In his case there was 12 with a couple with old albums and rest just hoping for a picture with the 66 year old who once were fans and still were up to tonight. Epcot has their fireworks after the concerts and he saw all of us waiting and stood watching the fireworks about 25 feet away but never made an effort to come over. Now figure how difficult that would have been to take 5 minutes to say THANK YOU that some still remembered him. Now here is the kicker. After the show the whole band went back inside and a couple of us knew right away that he was SNEAKING out the other side to avoid these few fans. I gave a heads up to all that heard me and about 6 of us headed to the other side and still he acted that he had to go and gave the attitude that he was still a meg a star. WAKE UP RICK YOU ARE NOT. He signed a few as he walked with only a RS( must be difficult to write that) and a couple of selfies and off he went. Those that were still waiting on the other side had no clue what had happened. The other night I met Christopher Cross at Epcot and PAUL KANTNER who outshine Springfield beyond words and have not forgotten how that got there and showing appreciation for a few fans that still remember the Good Old days of fleeting fame that many have in that business. Springfield lost a few more fans and maybe soon he will have only his band as his faithful.
