LONG LIVE MONTY PYTHON!!!
I have always had a few favorites and one undeniably is MONTY PYTHON.
As I was growing up we were able to catch it on TV the comedy of MONTY PYTHONS FLYING CIRCUS ( This is before Cable ) with the British Humor that was far more risky and not as screened as the American censors. Every week for a half hour some of the corniest but funniest skits that have become folklore with this band of crazy guys. From the Dead Parrot to the Funny Walks to songs ( my favorite was , I'M a Lumbar jack and that is OK etc etc . If You have never heard that please Google. They were one of the first to graduate into films ( Life of Brian and the classic Holy Grail). When I spoke to some friends in their 20's they really did not know to much of them but again I asked them to Google when the Black Knight is approached in the Holy Grail Film. It truly is one of the classics of all time and I strongly suggest to watch that scene if You have not seen it and even better if You have to keep smiling that will last the day. Only once in a blue moon will they tour especially since the passing of Graham Chapman , so when the opportunity a rose that ERIC IDLE and JOHN CLEESE were coming to town it was a must with no excuses to see them and hope to have the opportunity to meet them.
Now the venue where they were performing is one of the more difficult in hopes to meet anyone, so my buddy and I went around back with nothing to lose but time. At first there were only 3 of us but grew to about 15 all with programs except us with a few photos and I had brought along 3 of their albums in hopes to get them autographed. As security approached us we were not sure what was to happen as we had heard that Cleese had not been signing and only Idle had been taking the time to say hello.
" Get in a straight line and they both will sign for you all" was told to us by security and I lit up like a Christmas Tree. Both they told us and sure enough Cleese pulls up and from the passenger seat invited us one at a time. HE WAS TERRIFIC. I was the lucky one to go first and we chatted few a few moments as he admired the albums and shook my hand. I even mentioned that we are all ecstatic that he stopped and he told me ," Usually there are 40 people or so outside and since you were are a smaller crowd it just seemed perfect" He signed for everyone and though no pictures were allowed it did not matter. He was kind, gracious and a true delight to meet. Eric Idle followed as he walked up to us after Cleese had left and he too took the time toi thank everyone for coming and signed everything for all. As we walked away I marveled what a great moment it was as it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. Either watching from the TV or Movie Screen to meet someone you have admired and enjoyed makes this hobby so worth it and a memory that will always last.
