WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT TODD RUNDGREN
I have been listening to TODD RUNDGREN since 1970 and have followed his career as a solo act to the days with UTOPIA and even Ringo Starrs Allstar Band and has been a major player on the music scene. Though 67 he still is a musician , strong song writer and producer which included BAT OUT OF HELL by Meatloaf. I had the opportunity to meet him several years ago and that meeting has always stood out in my mind. He had a show at the Hard Rock in Orlando and I decided to take a chance and guess on what hotel he was going back to after his show.
I was sitting in the lobby and I got a quick glimpse of someone hustling towards the elevator and realized that it was Todd himself. I got to him at the elevator and asked if he would mind signing an album. He looked at me with food in his hand and said " I got to go and am in a rush" . I told him that I do not mind waiting and he turned and asked what I had. Actually I brought every album I had of his which numbered almost 20. When I told him if he signed only one I would be happy as I am just a loyal fan. He then shocked me when he said : Give me all of them and I will bring them back" and off into the elevator he went. I went back to the lobby and thought I may be here for some time. The in about 10 minutes he cam down the elevator and LOOKED for me .
I approached him and he said" You area true fan, Thanks" and off he went. Ten years passed and he was playing at a smaller venue and Rocket Man and I thought we would give it the college try and try to meet and more important to me get a picture with . The in a blink of an eye we saw him coming our way so we jumped to the chance and moment. We politely asked if he would mind signing and with out hesitation he said " Sure". As he was signing I told him about my first encounter when he took my albums and brought the back making me a bigger fan than before. He looked at us and said laughingly" I didn't steal them did I '" and posed for a picture for both of us. We both walked away smiling and meeting this musical icon just put the icing on a great week.
