ROBBY KREIGER OF THE DOORS
Growing up like so many of us Music played an important role in our sounds and likes and the DOORS were one of the most memorable to many of us. LIGHT MY FIRE, LOVE ME TWO TIMES, TOUCH ME are songs we can remember every word and will sing along every time the tunes are played on the radio or in concerts. Though all remember the haunting voice of JIM MORRISON , it was ROBBY KRIEGER who wrote many of them as he played the guitar from day one and still does to this day. I met Robby many years ago when the Hard Rock had a grand opening of the Hard Rock Vault in Orlando but it was fleeting as Late RAY MANZAREK did most of the talking when we hung around in a hotel lobby many years ago. Robby was in town playing some of the Doors greatest hits and a friend and I went to the see prior to the show in hopes of getting an album signed but more importantly a picture with with this rock legend. It was drizzling slightly and we were not 100 percent sure he had already arrived and was inside. But just as our thoughts were wandering a van pulled up and out comes Robby. We ran as quickly as we could to the side but were confronted by a steel fence which blocked all attempts to get within a 100 ft of him.
" Robby Please could You sign our albums . We love Ya Man" pleaded my friend and lo and behold it worked. He came over and not saying too much gladly signed a couple of albums and a photo. We asked if we could get a picture and he said sure but as I positioned myself a steel fence still was between us. It feels like this is a picture in jail which II mentioned to him before the photo and he smiled and quietly walked away as we thanked him several times. He could have just gone inside a it was raining and were not arms length to him, BUT he did not. Reviews of the show have been a bit harsh at times but if We are ever asked, Robby is First Class and someone who I will continue to admire as a guitarist and more importantly as a person.
It never eases to amaze me that when we meet some of the people we admired, watched on stage and screen or listened to on the radio or album, that we are truly blessed and lucky as the opportunity does not come very often. Today was a good one with Robby helping for fill another chapter in ones life.
