THE MAN WHO BRINGS THE BEATLES ALIVE IN CARTOONS
The name RON CAMPBELL is not a every day household name but his drawing of the BEATLES have been seen by Millions. He was one of the illustrators of the Beatles YELLOW SUBMARINE cartoons and his drawings make anyone marvel at his wonderful talent. He tours with his manager/assistant Scott to various locations from fine Art Studios to open market malls where I had the pleasure of meeting and viewing his talent that he shares with the world. A Friend and I waited patiently in line with a few photos that we hoped to get sign and meet this Great Talent who came from Australia. As we waited my eyes caught a glimpse of one of the pieces of genius and You guessed it, I had to buy it. Now like many artists who sell their pieces a Certificate of Authenticity comes with the piece that one buys and usually states exactly what you have purchased. For the first time in all my years I witnessed something that was truly great. When the opportunity to sit down in front of him came our turn, he took the COA and proceeded to paint the faces of all the Beatles as a token of his appreciation.
Ron TOOK HIS TIME, nearly 10 minutes passed as he painted while he talked about how he got started. What stood out was how he began interested in doing all types of drawings and illustrations. As a kid ( He is 75 years old now) he read and watched TOM and JERRY cartoons and thought they were real. So when he realized how they came to life ,he felt that was to be his calling and truly his passion. He was one of the kindest artists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and the smile and twinkle in his eyes was so evident when people appreciated his work and talent. I did tell him that When I met President Bill Clinton i shared with the President that he was on my top two bucket list of people who I wanted to meet. President Clinton asked " who is the other" and I responded PAUL McCARTNEY. He smiled and said I am in good company". He smiled at me and said " Great Story".Go meet him when he comes to Your area and listen and enjoy his little stories of how the BEATLES have been a mainstay in his life all these years and how their images come to life with the stroke of his brush.
