SAMMIE SMITH A TRUE CLASS ACT
For People who were and are College Football Fans will not have a hard time remembering SAMMIE SMITH. He was a stand out high school player from Apopka, Florida who went on to have a great career at Florida State University 1989 to 1992 and went on to play for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL when he was a picked 9th in the draff.
As a fan of the game I have been collecting many of the FSU standouts on a Helmet that I have been collecting for over 20 years. Coach Bowden and Fisher grace this piece with many others including Fred Biletnikoff, Derrick Books just to name a few. Sammie Smith was one that I did not have and on a rumor that he was a regular patron at a local restaurant, I stopped by. I met the owner Rich who was as friendly and even more helpful to assist me on this quest. He arranged with a phone call to me on the time Sammie would be stopping by and was told that he would be happy to do so.
First how many stars would even be so cooperative but SAMMIE SMITH is the man.He came in and sat at the table where Rich and I were and treated me as if I was his friend for 20 years. He was terrific. We all spoke about football and was easily one of the Top Ten friendliest individuals I have ever met. As many do know he had some problems with the law but paid his dues and is paying it forward with charities and active in the community especially for the youth. Sammie is one of the finest people anyone could meet and I will always be happy to call him my friend and will assist him in any way I can . I truly hope everyone will have an opportunity to meet him as You will never be disappointed and will walk away with a smile a mile wide.
