JOHN MAYALL IS STILL AN ICON

Image
Over the years we always want to look in the mirror and feel we have not changed too much. We seem to handled it much better on ourselves though we have changed but always want to find some of the similarity we had when we were 20 that are still there when we are 50. The only difference in our mind set is when we see some of the personalities we grew up with and sometimes we are shocked. They have become overweight or are now bald but the changes can be drastic at times. I believe it is due to we see them plastered all over and then they disappear from the limelight and when they reappear in magazines, stories on TV or return to the concert scene When I was growing up and music was my second language. there were many groups and singers I admired from their performances and especially with their prowess on their music ability. JOHN MAYALL was one of them. I remember this wizard playing his guitar and his long hair and striking features that made him a true rock N R...

HERSCHEL WALKER IS SOMETHING SPECIAL

Image
When You hear the name HERSCHEL WALKER most people remember this great Football star at the University of Georgia who won the Heisman Trophy as the Most Outstanding College Player in 1982. He went on to play in the World Football league and then to the NFL including the Cowboys and the Giants. He is in the College Hall of Fame and I had an opportunity to meet meet him briefly at the College Home Depot Awards but was bombarded by autograph seekers mostly professionals that did not give an opportunity to speak with him and to see what he was really like. My Impression at that meeting was he was getting annoyed at this seekers shoving items in his face to be autographed with only dollars signs and not trying to carry a conversation with this young man.So Never judge a book by its cover would be a perfect analogy. My wife was attending a conference and one of the speakers turned out to be Herschel Walker.Like so many she knew the name but really did not know the person. She...

BB KING IS GONE BUT THE THRILL WILL REMAIN

Image
Today all over social media and from close friends have told all the world that the King of the Blues BB KING has left to jam in heaven. I met BB King 5 times over his years of playing and though his tolerance to autograph seekers waned in the late years , I still have one of the greatest moments that My Son and I will never forget. We managed to maneuver ourselves on a meet and greet line after one of his shows at his club where people had paid 1000 dollars for a meet and greet. As we stood in line we seemed to blend in and no one asked us for a badge or why we were there. So apx 10 people including us and a friend waited patiently to have a royal audience with the King himself. And WE Did. He was kind, joyful and very talkative about his years in music and never hesitated to expand information on questions we asked. He signed away and what will never leave me is the way he held our hands as a friend would when we sat side by side with him in our picture which will a...

JEFFERSON STARSHIP MAY BE ON THE WAY HOME

Image
As long as I can remember JEFFERSON AIRPLANE which evolved into JEFFERSON STARSHIP has been around with countless iconic songs that many of us grew up with since the late 60's . The Voice of GRACE SLICK and the Majestic beauty she had hypnotized everyone with PAUL KANTNER, DAVID FREIBERG, PAPA JOHN CREECH, MARTY BALIN, JORMA KAUKONAN and JACK CASADY.. Along with the Beatles and the Stones they were my favorite and over the years I saw them many times in concert. I can clearly remember just after their performance at WOODSTOCK, they headlined a concert festival at Roosevelt Raceway in New York with CHUCK BERRY, Elephants Memory and several others and the sound they took from San Francisco kept everyone on their feet partying with only love about. This world could use some of that now. But as years went by some left to form Hot Tuna, Grace became ill but has taken up painting ( I personally have two of them and had the great pleasure meeting and hanging out with her a...
