LARRY GATLIN and THE GATLIN BROTHERS NEED A LESSON IN HUMILITY
Over the years I have seen many acts and in the case of the Gatlin Brothers 3 times. They were performing about an hour away at a small venue so My wife and I decided to take a drive and see them. Now for all purposes My wife is the bigger fan and she was very anxious to meet them after the show.
They put on a good show and were to sign any items in the lobby of the venue which is unusual as all the acts usually sign inside where people get on an orderly line and patiently wait. I did not thin much of it before as they did the same thing last year but even comments from the people waiting thought it was odd. Now I was more interested in having Steve ( one of the 3 Gatlin Boys) to sign my photos as they were incomplete from last year as he was quite ill and could not sign. A dear friend who was with us last year even asked Larry last year " Could we just pass the photos to him on the Bus" and Larry snapped at her" HE is Sick. What do you want me to do about it".
We did not push the thought again. As about 35 people waiting to have items signed I noticed something that really disturbed me. There was a lady about 80 years old asking him to sign the program and CD and Larry was plain out rude to her. She tried to ask him a question and all he did was roll his eyes and said " Just keep going Lady" and just cur her off and did it over again to another person who asked if she could have a picture with him. When I came up I only had a poster signed by many singers and asked him" WHY ARE YOU GUYS NOT IN THE COUNTRY HALL OF FAME YET?" My wife standing next to me noticed that it was the only time he took notice to something said to him. He responded' I do not know. But You need to contact them and tell them we need to be and keep sending postcards to them". He wanted to discuss it more but I turned the tables and cut him off after the way he treated his fans before that. Steve also was very impersonal except Rudy who did share some words with their once adoring fans.
My wife who is a handwriting expert said that they are very self centered and it is all about them. Maybe They should sing a song on being humble and I also believe the committee on the nominating for the Country Hall of Fame may know more than the fans have noticed before. Or have them change the name to Larry Bratlin and the Bratlin Brothers.
