THE PNC FATHER/SON GOLF TOURNAMENT IS A WONDERFUL EVENT EXCEPT.......
Every year that the PNC Father/Son golf Tournament is staged and since its beginning I have always made an effort to be there and admire some of Golfs Legends all who have one a Major in the Golf Competition. To see JACK NICKLAUS, RAY FLOYD,NICK FALDO, NICK PRICE to name only a few of the 18 that compete for a nice Money Prize that they share with their children. It is probably one of the best run Tournaments that anyone can attend and the gate price is only 15 dollars.Like many I did follow JACK NICKLAUS and even chatted with him while he waited on the tee about our Total Hip Replacements while the crowd was hoping Jack may sign a few autographs. He politely told everyone," I WILL GET EVERYONE AT THE END OF THE ROUND" . The true Golf fan hopes that they may have that moment EXCEPT: Most are not prepared to see 3 deep of mostly Professional Graphers that see it as selling item not one to put on their wall. Now I have said it before and I will continue to do so, I do not have a problem when someone does this to offset their costs for their time, gas and materials. But what irks me is some of the bragging ," I got 3 Jacks and I need a few more because he sells". They may be at one hole wearing a hat and then taking off their glasses and also the hat in hopes that they would not be recognized. SURPRISE, many of the golfers remember their faces and some do it again not to make a scene while some will stand up to them. VIJAY SINGH is not well liked among them , because he will remember faces and will tell them right out, " I got You before" .I do admire that. There is a general rule that dressing in a neat way has been the custom at golf matches for centuries and even the Volunteers who work the golf tournament can spot them in outfits like they do not have a penny to live on. Now when Jack came off the 18th the graphers reached over with items, flags moved to the front and the middle so anyone near the end of the line was out of luck as it appeared Jacks hands were starting to hurt because he was signing so many and had to quit. As he drove off in the cart I was not upset with Jack but the manner that it was handled not allowing some of the true fans to get something special to remember from the Tournament. Many of these graphers do it for a living now and though it is definitely getting tougher, golfers were probably the last groups that Have politely signed but mark my words that may change sooner than anyone may believe.I will end this with LEE TREVINO tried to evade all autograph seekers after the first hole but was approached by 3 collectors on the 17th green. As he approached them and I quote" I GET UP AT 4 AM TO SIGN FREAKIN AUTOGRAPHS' and was not very happy doing it. When he came off the 18th he avoided all graphers and disappearred into the night. That may start to happen more often unless it is controlled and shared with everyone and not a few.
