MICHAEL J. FOX TROUBLES AT THE AIRPORT
I have been collecting autographs and meeting many celebrities for so many years , I have lost count on my many encounters with them mostly good but of course there will be so ones You want and will forget. NOT TODAY. A friend of mine told me that MICHAEL J. FOX was coming into Orlando as a stop over at DISNEY before he participated in an event in Jacksonville, Florida.
I had always wanted to meet this great star that I have admired over the years because of his courage and drive to not let his disease of PARKINSONS defeat him as long as he could keep going. When I arrived to my disbelief but not surprise there were about 40 professional graphers waiting for him in the area where he would be exiting off the tram from the airplane. I have said it many times there is no security that can not be breached and these people were the best proof of my statement. They waited in a line calmly I must say holding guitars, baseballs, 11 x 14 photos and one brought a box load of Delorean Cars in hopes that they could get him to sign. Most if not all were going to eventually sell them as anything he signs will go for a good dollar on auction sites and especially EBAY.
As I was looking around I spotted a well known Lawyer who was waiting for his daughter and he was also amazed. Not so much of all of them waiting, for them to find out all the flight info( Though he was shocked) but the way most of them dressed. Sloppy at best were the majority and a blind man could tell them were not true fans. Then like Clockwork Michael came thru the area with HIS FAMILY and GEORGE STEPANOPOLIS the news man. Like ants on sugar they started to surround him and Michael kept saying" Guys I can not sign , my hand is shaking too much" And it definitely was. He looked tired, drawn and was unsteady and shaky as he was being assisted by Disney and Airport staff. Even with Michael's statement that he could not sign, one after the other grapher KEPT persisting, Oh please sign my picture, next one How about my guitar it will only take a minute". They swarmed him like bees and the crime of it all they did NOT STOP HARASSING this poor guy. To top this as he got in the elevator, one guy keep saying" Michael like New York we all get into a line and You will sign. Got to admire his persistence but when he entered the elevator about 12 of them crammed in with him again with hopes maybe he would change his mind. He did take a few pictures with some but not by his choosing.
Michael never got angry nor cursed any of them. I surely would have and could not believe what my eyes were watching as the graphers kept trying just like Piranhas. Disney staff whisked him away finally to one of their Hotels and they dispersed like roaches with the lights on. They came from as far as Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville and walked away with nothing. That was truly the only justice served as I never felt so bad for a person who was so harassed just because he was famous but all it was about profit. I do not know if Michael will ever see this blog but a good suggestion will be that a charity signing for the Parkinson's Association charging 50 dollars may stop what I felt was the only time I felt embarrassed that I ask for anyone's autograph. If You get to see Michael in Public , give him his space and respect , for he richly deserves it.
