The Great Cheech Marin
There are not many acts that stay together over the years like CHEECH AND CHONG. I had seen them in 1972 for my Birthday with the opening act STEELY DAN. Now over the years I have met TOMMY CHONG and he always has been delightful and accommodating to all his fans for autograph requests and a picture or two. Cheech was always the tougher of the two and I never had the pleasure or the opportunity to meet him until yesterday. Though he is really remembered for one half of this legendary comic team he has been in many roles that has shown his makeup as a very good actor. DUSK TO DAWN ( Loved him in that) MACHETE ( great as the gun carrying priest), Beverly Hills Chihuahua,
Once Upon A Time in Mexico and I could go on and on.When information came about him leaving after a show the night before, I just could not miss this chance and along with 9 others we waited for him to check in at the airport. As he arrived and left his ride I approached him and mentioned that concert in 1972. He remembered that Steely Dan opened for them but asked where was it. I mentioned WESTBURY MUSIC FAIR and he said " Yeah that is right. Wow". He then told us all" that lets go inside where it is a little cooler" and that he did. He sat down signed everything that people put in front of him including duplicate posters, photos and believe it or not pick guards and 2 baseballs. He smiled during the time with us and took pictures with all that asked.. This man was terrific , never complained and truly made everyone's day just perfect. So the next time you see him in concert or on TV crack a smile and know he is one hell of a nice guy.
