PETER MAX THE POP/MODERN ARTIST
If I say I met and hung out with Peter Max; on the average 50% will say "WHO'S THAT?
During the free spirit of the 1960s PETER MAX was one of the best know artists painting pictures of the BEATLES, ROLLING STONES and signs that were representing Make Love Not War. Peter MAX never waived from the style he enjoyed and as time went on his art work started to sky upwards. My family and I have met him 3 times, have 2 pieces of his art hanging on the wall (They were not cheap) as his artwork has not changed in the unique style but he is another who has changed with the times. He would let those who could not afford his art get in line and have him sign an item of his choosing such a promo flyer or his book of works. I remember once I printed a collage of his photos on a 8x10 and when I approached him to get his autograph, he looked at me and said" Where did You Get this?" and I responded off the Internet. Without hesitation he torn it up in from of me and grabbed a flyer and signed it ,always personalizing it and told me" This is Better" and walked away.
What I have been told now he will charge you 50 dollars to sign any item that is not one of his paintings. He will even draw an image and personalized every painting that he sells when he is at the store for some promotion that you buy. He is getting older and quite eccentric in his behavior but truly a genius with his art and if he ever gets to an art gallery near you, just a glimpse and maybe a handshake as I really feel pretty lucky that I met this legend.
