FUNKY
This past weekend I had an
opportunity to see some rockers of the yesterday and was able to meet one of my
favorites MITCH RYDER . Mitch has been rocking for years since starting with
Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels and I remember seeing him the first time in
1969. He was the headliner with POCO and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band where
they performed in a Skating rink and the price was 3 dollars. Caught his show
with GARY LEWIS who is as friendly as anyone could be and the others were not
as personal.
Mark Farner the lead singer and guitarist of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD still believes that he is so much superior to everyone else and sells his autograph at the show for 10 dollars. Today he refused and ignored the request of signing his album that he made money off when I bought it several years ago. In fact I had 3 of them and I can assure you I will never listen to them again. Chuck Negron was also there of THREE DOG NIGHT fame and in the Past has been one of the greatest when meeting in person but at this time he appeared ill and not himself at all. When he performed at the show, he appeared rigid and also as if someone had winded him up for the show and looked exhausted after playing 5 songs.
Flo and Eddie where as they are always and Mark was as cordial as always and Kaplan was grumpy and acted as if he was just going thru the motions. But no matter what, meeting, talking with and sharing a few Memories with Mitch Ryder was all worth it and he still knows that without his fans he would be sitting around in full retirement as many of those who were at the show.
