BACK TO THE FUTURE
I had an old friend
whose favorite movie was Back to the Future and all the movies that followed in
the Series. I always thought it was a good movie but not in the classic
category. UNTIL NOW. I watched it again this evening and realized that each one
of those stars were perfect in their roles and should be a great movie that all
should enjoy. Over the years I have met many of them which has enhanced my
feelings and the different personalities and the memories of them when I met
them with many of the other graphers. On a recent post I spoke
of CLAUDIA WELLS who is as genuine as they come. She played Marty’s first
girlfriend and was signed to play in the following 2 movies but had to back out
because she took care of her Ailing Mother and knew her priorties in life. She
is Terrific. There is TOM WILSON who played Biff and is as different as
day and night from the role he played. He is more than friendly, speaks well of
everyone BUT has this quirk that he will not sign any BACK TO THE FUTURE memorabilia.
A friend once even offered to pay him 100 dollars to sign his 3 posters and he
politely refused. No one knows why he takes this position except Tom and maybe
one day we will find out. LEA THOMPSON is another who is so friendly and
accommodating when she is asked to take a picture or sign an autograph but she
too puts her family in front of all activities. JAMES TOLKAN who played
the Principal and other authority roles in the series was pleasant and loved a
good cigar. DONALD FULLILOVE who played as the soda jerk in the Diner and later
the Mayor was as friendly and wild as his part in the movies. Wanted to have
fun with everyone. HUEY LEWIS whose music kept the beat of the movie and played
the high school band audition judge in a small role was friendlier than rumors
told of him and was happy to sign and take pictures for an entire crowd. It
taught me never believe everything you hear about someone and expect the best.
BOB GALE who wrote and director the following episodes was cautious on what he
signed but was a class guy. BURTON GILLIAM played a small role (Most
Famous for Blazing Saddles) was shy a but one of the nicest guys you could call
a friend. Now the strangest meeting was that of CRISPIN GLOVER who played the
original George McFly. He promoted a film he made and directed at a
special theatre which was supposed to last with his question and answer period
for apx 2 1/2 hours. We only wished. It went on for 5 hours on pure rambling
and though you can tell that he is truly a genius very very strange. When the
autograph line was to begin he first wanted inside, changed his mind and we
were all told to wait outside and after the line was organized he changed again
and wanted to do it inside. When we returned which was a least 100 people, he
was in the corner of the stage in a small desk with all the furniture moved
away. He waved his hand when he wanted us to approach One at a time and
only 2 items. On each of this items, and I mean each one he wrote (Inscribed
your Name) Thanks for coming to Everything is Fine Crispin Hellion
Glover. We left close to 3 am in the morning and were told the last
person he signed for was a 5 am. To this date I have not had the pleasure
of meeting CHRISTOPHER LLOYD and MICHAEL J. FOX who is on my bucket
list of stars that I would like to meet one day. And I truly plan to do so.
